Ask A Manager: Mandy Beats
What are some good resources for artists?
There is SO much information out in the world now, that it’s sometimes hard to know what is good advice vs a trending post. And musician’s are not only fighting the noise to get their music out there, but also fighting the noise to find solid business and marketing advice. And that is why recommendations make all the difference now a days!
Here are my current top 3 music industry resources and why I like them:
Trying to figure out branding and your artist identity? Figuring out who you are as an artist and expressing that can be a game changer for marketing- but how do you actually do that? The Best Branding Workbook for the Music Industry is filling in that gap. (I do have to say, I’m partial because I wrote it, but I also know it’s good because of that!) Unlike traditional books, this isn’t a sit down and read chapters type of book. This is an interactive workbook focused on reflecting and discovering who you are as an artist and creative.
Looking for the music industry basics- from how to upload music for release to actual budget examples for promotion (with current 2024 prices!) One of the reasons I love this book is because it was written in 2024, so everything is current, from platforms to budgets. Music Business Basics: How to Effectively Release & Promote Your Music as an Independent Artist
Want an overarching music industry resource? How To Make It in the New Music Business has been on my shelf for a while. Admitently, for me, it isn’t a sit down and reach in one sitting type of book, but has been great to pop into for specific topics. This book has been a bestseller for years and continually gets updated to stay current.
