The Early 2000s Scene

By Jessica Hart

From Portland, OR, lies Old Cross. A melodic punk band that is heavy on the early 2000s scene (which was the scene I grew up in!). As a three piece band, they’ve released one self-titled EP in 2018, and their more recent full-length album, “Daggers,” in 2020 on Zomie! Media Records. They are set to release their NEW album, “Dead End Lullabies” in October!

Portland, Oregon’s Old Cross hearken back to the best of the 2000s melodic punk scene, pulling influences from AFI, The Used, and Alkaline Trio. They’ve made a name for themselves with their unique blend of power and melody
— New Noise

They’ve released their latest single, “The Attic”, which tackles topics like momentary existentialism with punk rock melodies and poetic lyrics, reminding me almost of Rise Against.
AND it came out with a music video! (Which once again, ARE MY FAVOURITES!)

The Attic was originally written a decade ago after losing a close friend and was never officially released. Since the new album will basically be an anthology of the last 3 years following my dad’s passing, The Attic felt relevant and right at home with the newly written record.
