A Different You
By Jessica Hart
A new podcast episode has been released where I talk a bit about my own personal music journey and how WhatsHerFace started!
Transcript
Hello everybody. I just wanted to use this time to briefly talk about my experience in the music world and the random way I got here.
I’ve always been into music. I learned to play guitar, I tried to write songs, I was in musical theatre. But I was never really good. I loved performing but singing in front of an audience terrified me because I knew I didn’t sound good and I didn’t know how to do better. I was also a broke boy, so things like lessons weren’t in the cards.
Instead of continuing with it, like any troubled kid, I got into substances and ended up pregnant at 18. I used this lesson to finish highschool, and attend university with my son, where I graduated with a B.A. in Sociology and Applied Behavioural Analysis. I spoke at YWCA women’s conferences, worked in the student health centre, and worked at a million other jobs as well. Everything from fast food, retail, with children and even an escape room.
During this time I also met my now husband. Tep No. He was making music at his parents house, not a whole lotta money to his name, but he was just starting to create Tep No. He needed a female vocalist for a song and I told him I don’t sing. He pushed and pushed, and that’s when A Different You was released. After that he asked to release more under my own name, and my personal music project grew. I was able to release and write some songs that I’m proud of that have appeared on MTV, HBO, Sirius XM, and received millions of streams. It’s kind of crazy to think about.
But due to our family life, I found it difficult to keep up with, especially since Tep No was touring. So I started a podcast with my two best friends, and that’s how Opinionated Lushes happened.
But Jessica, why did you start this music blog?
Great Question Jessica.
Funny enough, I’m not the only Jessica Hart in the world. I know. Crazy.
There’s another Jessica Hart that writes for Earmilk, a popular music blog. But when you search Jessica Hart music, I pop up. This caused some confusion with a few music managers and pr people, so I started received marketing packets and private download links to unreleased songs, albums and music videos.
I tried contacting Earmilk but they never responded.
So my friend Mandy Beats suggested a music blog, and when I get an idea I have to do it (now whether I keep up with it is a whole separate issue).
And that’s how WhatsHerFace was born.
So that’s a bit about me. I look forward to sharing new music with you at WhatsHerFace, drunken stories on Opinionated Lushes, and my soul in my music under Jessica Hart.
Thank you again for listening!
