By Jessica Hart
The vibes-based Toronto-talent, Tep No, has released a new hit! “Streets of Malibu” hits all the things that make a classic Tep No song with a catchy hook, fun guitar lines, and chill production. This song was something he had been sitting on for seven years but finally felt the need to complete and release it. Tep No's signature laid-back style shines through in "Streets of Malibu," creating a perfect summer jam that captures the essence of carefree days and good vibes.
Tep No say’s the song is about, “...someone who is trying to lure a person into their Malibu world, where they’re surrounded by celebrities. They want to show this person off because they objectify people, and give them false hopes about maybe giving them opportunities in the entertainment industry.”
The shift away from traditional celebrity culture and the growing transparency around exploitative contracts in the music industry reflect a changing landscape of values and ideals in our society. Indie artists are increasingly vocal about the deceptive promises made by major labels, highlighting a deeper desire for authenticity and fair treatment. The industry's historical objectification of individuals is being challenged as more people refuse to be exploited. This evolution underscores a broader societal shift towards empowerment, accountability, and respect within the music scene.
In other awesome news: Tep No's track "Belly of the Castle" gaining momentum on TikTok as more and more people use the sound!
