What’s up, “Dog”?

By Jessica Hart

Willowake, the alternative-indie punk band hailing from Los Angeles, California, has just announced their signing with Wiretap Records. The band is gearing up to drop their debut EP on June 21st, following the release of their latest single and music video for the track "Dog." Fans can anticipate a unique blend of punk rock vibes and indie flair from this upcoming release.

The track and EP was produced by Steve Ornest and co-produced by Jakob Armstrong. That’s right! The son of Green Day’s own Billie Joe Armstrong! Glad to see he’s sticking to his punk roots!

JR Polanco (vocals/guitar) says the song “Dog”, “...is our most personal song yet; it details becoming anxious and disoriented during daily routine, as well as experiencing distress from social pressure. This is illustrated by the song’s main hook, “It’s all a blur to see it through.”

It’s their oldest song on the EP, having been made back three years prior, when they were still in high school. The song never felt finished and took on various states while they worked in the studio, along with their producers, to give it the emotional yet dynamic sound we hear now.

The music video is full of creative imagery and metaphors that align perfectly with the emotional lyrics.

I can’t wait to listen to the full EP once it’s released!
